Russell expecting difficult Miami GP – "There’s no grip whatsoever!"

Image
George Russell says he is expecting Sunday's Miami Grand Prix to be difficult for everyone, citing the lack of grip available offline at the Miami International Autodrome. For 2023, race organisers opted to resurface the track in order to promote overtaking, but according to Russell, the resurfacing may have had the opposite effect, with Charles Leclerc, Nico Hulkenberg and Nyck de Vries all coming to grief against the barriers across Friday's two practice sessions. "We'll go into Sunday a bit of an unknown," Russell said after FP2 on Friday. "The track's been resurfaced. It's still not performing like any other circuit, so it's a true outlier here, which is cool in some regards. "I think is going to be really difficult to race because you can't drive offline, and you've seen a few people, myself included, you put one wheel off and there's no grip whatsoever ." Russell himself had topped the timesheets in FP...

Sainz questions whether Russell/Verstappen battle was 'personal'

Image
Carlos Sainz has questioned whether Max Verstappen and George Russell were making their battle "personal" during the opening lap of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix Sprint race. The two drivers engaged in a scrap for P3 on Lap 1 of the 17-lap encounter, resulting in contact between them at Turn 2. Verstappen eventually got back in front and finished in third, with Russell ending the day in fourth. Verstappen and Russell shared a tense exchange in parc ferme after the event, while Sainz – who claimed P5 in the Sprint behind the duo – gave his take on what he witnessed during their first-lap fight. Sainz on 'personal' Verstappen/Russell battle "I had to take avoiding action more than anything else," Sainz told media, including TheFOXposts.Com . "There's no space. I nearly caught them both. "They were very aggressive, and it looked like they were taking it personal at some point because it was a bit all over the place for them....

Azerbaijan GP Sprint crash risk leaves Krack 'nervous'

Image
Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack has conceded he is " nervous " about the upcoming Sprint weekend at the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. F1 's alternative format returns for the first of six instalments this season at the Baku City Circuit, marking the first time a Sprint has been held on a street circuit. The tight and twisting layout will ramp up the pressure on drivers to maintain precision across a weekend that, if proposals to include a second qualifying session are passed, would see only one practice session held before critical sessions take place. With teams fighting to remain within F1 's budget cap whilst continuing development plans across the campaign, the prospect of two street races in two days has been a cause for concern. Sainz relieved at fightback after 'nightmare' F1 form

Image
Ferrari 's Carlos Sainz has labelled the first half of the 2022 Formula 1 as a " nightmare ", but added he was pleased with his recovery in the second segment of the campaign. The F1-75 machine proved to be the quickest car at the beginning of the season, as Red Bull struggled with reliability and weight concerns while Mercedes were suffering from porpoising but could not work around the issue like Ferrari. Sainz followed home teammate Charles Leclerc for a 1-2 in the season-opener but was unable to match his teammate, who opened up a huge points lead at the top of the standings. The Spanish driver then suffered two DNFs in Australia and at Imola, the former being his own fault after beaching the car in the gravel on the second lap. Despite this patchy form, Sainz was positive when reflecting on the season, one in which he took a maiden Grand Prix victory at the British GP. ...
