Inspire Your Heart With Art Day (January 31st)

Image
Quick facts When is it? Every January 31st Tagged as Art & Drawing Hobbies & Activities What's the hashtag? #InspireYourHeartWithArtDay Have we missed something? Inspire Your Heart With Art Day sounds straightforward enough. Go to a gallery, theatre, cinema, or music venue, and soak up the art. Remember the instruction, though: Inspire Your Heart . Care is needed. Have you noticed how edgy the arts have been getting lately? It’s not about truth and beauty any more. Artists want to shock you. That’s their new raison d’etre, and while it might thrill and enrage you, it’s not necessarily good for your heart. So the key to getting the most out of this day is being selective about your art, and choosing something that will inspire your heart rather than expire it. With anything before 1967 you should be on fairly safe ground, but particularly recommended would be Turner (painting), Beethoven (Music) or Shakespeare (The Whole of Human Life). You know wh

Dead Space Remake Accused By Idiots Of Being "Too Woke"

The Dead Space remake is being hit with complaints from idiots who think that changing around a few characters is a sign of it becoming "too woke". The Dead Space remake is finally upon us, letting everyone experience a reimagined version of Isaac Clarke's first traumatic encounter with the Necromorphs. Although most of Dead Space has been kept the same as it originally was, EA Motive took the chance to change some things around, such as including more discoverable lore that hints at some late- Game story beats, adding Game play elements like the gross new peeling system, and making Isaac a little bit more chatty to better fit in with his characterisation in the sequels. From GoldenEye To Battletoads, Gamers Are Sharing The Best Pause Music Themes

The recent re-release of GoldenEye 007 on Switch and Xbox has reminded everyone just how great its soundtrack is, which has reignited conversations about some of the generation's best music. Earlier this week, Rare and Nintendo teamed up once more to bring everyone's favourite long-lost movie tie-in over to modern consoles - GoldenEye 007. Although there are plenty of reasons why GoldenEye is so fondly remembered, one big reason is its music, which was composed by Grant Kirkhope, Graeme Norgate, and Robin Beanland. Related: Remembering Agent Under Fire, The Second Best James Bond Game In particular, the pause menu theme has gone viral once again thanks to the re-releases, giving everyone a chance to listen to one of the best takes on the James Bond theme (don't worry, the gong is still in the Switch version). The legendary theme has caused some Game rs to question what other Game s from the generation have soundtracks made up of pure bangers. THEGAMER VIDEO OF TH

NBA trade deadline 2023: Ranking the 20 best players who could change teams in February

The NBA trade deadline is now less than two weeks away, yet thus far, the moves have been minimal. In fact, we've only seen two total trades to this point: Boston dumping Noah Vonleh on San Antonio and Washington sending Rui Hachimura to the Los Angeles Lakers. Eventually, this is going to change. There is simply too much incentive for teams to trade at this deadline for it not to. Only two teams in the NBA are currently on pace to win 55 games. There is virtually no separation between the teams fighting for the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, and things are even tighter in a Western Conference in which teams might find themselves in sixth place one night and 12th the next. More than half of the league can talk itself into a deep playoff run this season, and as such, there is going to be plenty of action at the deadline as buyers try to secure their place atop their conferences. But who are the players w

Report: Kyrie Irving wants to sign long-term deal with Nets, who are yet to communicate a similar desire

When Kyrie Irving was considered too toxic to even be around his own team back in early November, his market value was in the tank. The Lakers would've had an easier time offloading Russell Westbrook than Brooklyn would've had getting rid of Irving. Dude was radioactive. Nobody would go near him. Even the backup plan of the Lakers signing him as a free agent this summer was considered dead.  But a funny thing has happened since then. Irving hasn't done or said anything stupid, and instead has decided to remind everyone what an incredible talent he is. He's averaging 26-5-5 on 48/37/90 shooting splits. He's the league's leading fourth-quarter scorer. Entering play on Wednesday, he is riding a three- Game streak of posting at least 30 points, five assists and five rebounds, which is a career first.  It begs the question: How much market value has Irving restored? Might the Nets, who were pre

Journalist deaths jumped 50% in 2022, led by Ukraine, Mexico

Killings of journalists around the world jumped by 50% in 2022 compared to the previous year, driven largely by the slayings of reporters in Ukraine, Mexico and Haiti PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti -- Killings of journalists around the world jumped by 50% in 2022 compared to the previous year, driven largely by attacks in Ukraine, Mexico and Haiti. According to a report Tuesday by the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists, at least 67 news media workers were killed worldwide in 2022, the highest number since 2018. Journalists in the three countries say the increased danger has forced them to work under extreme stress. The effect is particularly notable in Haiti, where seven journalists were killed in 2022, a huge number for a small island country of about 12 million people. Some were killed by violent street gangs that have basically taken over the capital, Port au Prince, but at least two were shot by police. WhatsApp planning to let users retain the original image quality

WhatsApp will soon allow users to send images at their original quality without image compression. WABetaInfo spotted the code that would allow such a feature on the messaging app. WhatsApp already lets users pick “automatic,” “best quality ,” and “data saver,” image quality , but has had yet to introduce options for the original size and resolution of the image to be sent. Even the current, “best quality ” option provides faster data transfers that take up less storage space. 📝 WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.2.11: what's new? WhatsApp is working on sending photos in their original quality, for a future update of the app!https://t.co/loR2jZPaSP pic.twitter.com/3ry6GKuS1P — WABetaInfo (@WABetaInfo) January 20, 2023 The new feature is expected to be included in the new Android 2.23.2.11 but is under development and not yet available to beta testers. WABetaInfo found the 'photo quality ' settings within the drawing tool header, though there is no mention if the

National Measure Your Feet Day (January 23rd)

Quick facts When is it? Every January 23rd Tagged as Body & Health Life & Living What are the hashtags? #MeasureYourFeetDay #NationalMeasureYourFeetDay Have we missed something? National Measure Your Feet Day was invented so that you could give your feet some much-needed attention. It is common for people to forget about their feet when they are thinking of things that they need to check, and this day is there to help you remember. For example, we all remember that we need to brush and check our teeth to maintain good oral hygiene, we check our underarms for any swelling and various other parts of our body to make sure we are in good Health . But, for some reason, many of us end up forgetting about our feet!  While this day may seem bizarre in nature, and you would think it was very strange to have a whole day dedicated to measuring feet, it can actually prove quite useful. New nuclear rocket design to send mission to Mars in just 45 days

Image
We live in an era of renewed space exploration, where multiple agencies are planning to send astronauts to the Moon in the coming years. This will be followed in the next decade with crewed missions to Mars by NASA and China, who may be joined by other nations before long. These and other missions that will take astronauts beyond Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and the Earth-Moon system require new technologies, ranging from life support and radiation shielding to power and propulsion. And when it comes to the latter, Nuclear Thermal and Nuclear Electric Propulsion (NTP/NEP) is a top contender! NASA and the Soviet space program spent decades researching nuclear propulsion during the Space Race. A few years ago, NASA reignited its nuclear program for the purpose of developing bimodal nuclear propulsion – a two-part system consisting of an NTP and NEP element – that could enable transits to Mars in 100 days. As part of the NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) program for 2023, NASA selec

March for Life eyes 'next steps' after fall of Roe v. Wade

Image
Marchers made their way to the U.S. Capitol to send the message to the new Congress, including the new GOP-controlled House. Abortion opponents made a triumphant return to Washington on Friday for the annual March for Life. Thousands of people gathered on the National Mall to celebrate the fall of Roe v. Wade last summer. The march came just two days before what would've been the 50th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion nationwide. Five of the Supreme Court's conservative justices overruled Roe last June when it made its decision in the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, with Justice Samuel Alito calling Roe "egregiously wrong from the start." The issue has been sent to the states to decide whether to impose or lift restrictions on the procedure. MORE: 6 months after overturning of Roe v. Warriors trade rumors: James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody likely staying put at deadline

It's the story that will never end: Will the Golden State Warriors eventually dump this two-timeline strategy and go all in to prioritize a run at another championship? Everyone said they needed to cash in their assets last season, but they didn't, and they still won it all. Can they do it again this year?  It's not looking great so far, but per Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Golden State's slow start to the season is not going to push the team into a short-term-rental move that would compromise the future. In other words, James Wiseman and Moses Moody, and Jonathan Kuminga, who is more solidified in the rotation at this point, are unlikely to be dealt.  From Slater: Those in the know do not expect a loud trade deadline with substantial roster shuffling, instead anticipating some nibbling on the fringes, if anything. ... [Jonathan] Kuminga, [James] Wiseman and [Moses] Moody remain likely to be wit

Job cuts in tech sector spread, Microsoft lays off 10,000

Microsoft is cutting 10,000 workers, almost 5% of its workforce, as it joins other tech companies in a scaling back of their pandemic-era expansions Microsoft is cutting 10,000 workers, almost 5% of its workforce, joining other tech companies that have scaled back their pandemic-era expansions. The company said in a regulatory filing Wednesday that the layoffs were a response to “macroeconomic conditions and changing customer priorities.” The Redmond, Washington-based software giant said it will also be making changes to its hardware portfolio and consolidating its leased office locations. Microsoft is cutting far fewer jobs than it had added during the COVID-19 pandemic as it responded to a boom in demand for its workplace software and cloud computing services with so many people working and studying from home. “A big part of this is just overexuberance in hiring,” said Joshua White, a finance professor at Vanderbilt University. Microsoft’s workforce expanded by about 36% in the two f
