Gameplay Of Cancelled Dead Rising Game Emerges Online

The Dead Rising series has been presumed dead after the fourth installment. It's unclear why exactly Capcom made this decision, but we can only assume that it was because the devs couldn't find a way to freshen up the same formula. However, it wasn't for a lack of trying. It seems that a fifth Dead Rising project was in the works, and there's even Gameplay footage of it. Dead Rising: Dia De Los Muertos was cancelled for an unknown reason, but one of the devs that worked on it has used the Game's footage in their portfolio.

First spotted by STiP0, a familiar name in the Dead Rising community, the developer's portfolio reveals a few clips of early design, as well as some Gameplay. The protagonist looks like a younger version of series mainstay Chuck Greene, leading to the theory that this was supposed to be a prequel set in Mexico. Besides running around and pummeling zombies with anything he can get his hands on, Chuck can also be seen attacking an enemy stronghold with all guns blazing, taking on a boss, and another clip showcases the looting systems and animation.

An early rendition of the Dead Rising: Dia De Los Muertos logo has also been revealed. According to the date in the videos' titles, this was the state of the Game around 2016 - 2017; it's not final Gameplay, of course, but it's still quite a way into the developmental cycle. We don't know why Capcom cancelled it after working on it so much, but – truth be told – even with polishing and final touches, the Gameplay looks pretty bland.

Maybe that's why the project never saw the light of day. Or perhaps it didn't want to comPete with Sony Bend's then upcoming Game, Days Gone. The videos were uploaded to YouTube around two years ago as Unlisted, and have only come to light as of a few hours ago.

As for what fans have been doing to fill that Dead Rising shaped hole, well, they've been perfecting their Dead Rising 2 playthroughs to such an extent that one player has managed to complete the Game without killing even a single zombie.
